Nominated charity 2008

Registered Charity No. 1095611 |
From April 2008 DMA North has chosen to help raise awareness of organ donation through supporting Transplant Trust. The charity will benefit from the proceeds of the raffle and auction at the DMA North Glitter Ball taking place on Friday 16 May 2008.
The ball will mark the start of the partnership and we hope to generate much needed funds through further activities across the North region and to raise awareness of the valuable work done by Transplant Trust.
Transplant Trust
Established to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation, Transplant Trust has achieved much in its 18 year history. The charity is delighted to have been selected as the DMA North Charity of the Year and looks forward to a successful 12 months. | The link has come about through the charity’s Trustee, Angela Walledge whose husband John received a kidney transplant after over seven years on dialysis – an operation which has truly changed their lives. Angela commented “Transplant Trust is delighted to be selected as your charity of the year and we look forward to working closely with Deborah and the DMA North members to raise awareness and to fund vital research over the coming year”.
Transplant Trust has three main areas of activity:
National Transplant Week 6-13 July 2008 |
The main focus of our awareness-raising campaign, NTW sees a range of events and extensive media coverage and each year a dramatic upturn in the number of new registrants to the NHS Organ Donor Register. |

The Donor Bus
|
This Routemaster tours the UK and Northern Ireland with a team of volunteers to promote donation and transplantation. Many of our volunteers have had first-hand experience; either as recipients or having had members of their families donate organs. Donor Bus 2 is based in the north of England and is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment before hitting the road. |

Research
|
Essential to the future success of transplantation is the ongoing research to improve outcomes. Research supported by Transplant Trust will focus on: improving the number and functional status of organs available for transplantation; improving the diagnosis of acute rejection and developing less toxic, more effective approaches to immunosuppression. |
Remember Over 9,000 people in the UK need a transplant which could save or dramatically improve their lives. Less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year. Visit www.thetransplanttrust.org.uk for more information
